Lee County’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory quantifies ENERGY use and EMISSIONS from government operations and the community at large.
This data helps us understand our impacts (as an organization and a community) and gives us QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION related to the county's economic, social, and environmental SUSTAINABILITY.
By knowing how our energy is used, we know where our money is spent. For example, measuring our government buildings' emissions helps us understand if and where we are using too much energy. Energy use often translates directly to operational costs. By finding ways to reduce wasteful energy consumption, we are also finding ways to save tax-payer dollars.
The GHG emissions inventories highlight a number of opportunities to SAVE MONEY and other resources by reducing energy use and GHG emissions. The county’s goal is to demonstrate reductions as we continue to implement a number of innovative projects and programs to save money while reducing our impacts.
2012 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Re-Inventory
The 2012 re-inventory demonstrates a 12.8% REDUCTION in emissions since 2007. While Lee County has surpassed initial goals of reducing GHG emissions, the period between 2010 and 2012 did see an uptick, along with economic recovery. For more information about the breakdown of emissions and opportunities to make further reductions, please review the report:

2010 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Re-Inventory
The 2010 re-inventory demonstrates a 13.7% REDUCTION in emissions since 2007. This exceeds our overall reduction targets. However, there is still work to be done. The reductions may be related more to the economic environment than efforts to reduce impacts.
