Project Description
Matanzas Pass has been dredged 8 times previously, dating back to 1961. The latest dredging activity took place in Spring of 2001. Approximately 180,000 cyds of material were removed from the navigation channel and placed on Ft. Myers Beach.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has historically maintained the channel, however, the County conducted a maintenance activity in 1996. USACE is planning another maintenance event; however, it is expected construction will begin no earlier than Fall 2010. Cost estimates for the project have not been provided. |
