Non Hazardous Batteries: Batteries such as AAA, AA, C, D, 9 Volt, 6 Volt and most button cell batteries manufactured after 1993 have no added Mercury and are considered non-hazardous. These batteries may be disposed of in the regular household garbage.
Hazardous Batteries: All rechargeable Nickel-Cadmimum (Ni-Cd) and Lithium batteries still contain hazardous materials. Ni-Cd batteries used in items like coredless telephones, camcorders, power tools, cordless appliances, toys and laptop computers are all recyclable.
