Details: This new 44,500 s.f., two-story regional library is to be constructed in downtown Fort Myers at the corner of First Street and Royal Palm Avenue. This new facility will replace and nearly triple the size of the existing one-story library located at 2050 Central Avenue. The new building will be surrounded by public plazas and multi-purpose site spaces which shall provide a venue for Library-sponsored and other downtown events. The Library will feature extensive use of glass, outdoor seating, free interior and exterior Wireless Access, public access computers, and a Café. The design cost for the facility is $1,376,073. The guarantee maximum price to construct the library is $13,973,320. The total project cost including all soft costs, is anticipated to be less than $20 million.

Closures / Detours: A portion of Richmond Street will be closed to thru traffic, however, entrances to all existing businesses will remain open and accessible.
