Tuberculosis Control

Tuberculosis is a reportable disease and Florida state law mandates that all active tuberculosis cases be reported to the Health Department. In addition, the Health Department is responsible for treating or monitoring the treatment of all cases until cure.

TB Services
at the Lee County Health Department include:
  • Medical management
  • Medication (including Directly Observed Therapy)
  • Chest x-rays
  • Sputum smears and cultures
  • Other lab work as indicated
  • PPD’s
  • Contact investigations
  • Preventive treatment for inactive TB infection
  • Health Provider and Community Education
